It is truly a great honor and responsibility to greet you as the President of the Alumni Association of the School of Civil, Environmental & Architectural Engineering at Korea University.
Since its establishment in 1964, our School has achieved remarkable growth over the past 60 years, and countless alumni have played significant roles across academia, industry, and the public sector. At last year’s 60th Anniversary Celebration, we reflected on this proud history and shared a meaningful vision for the next 100 years.
Now, our Alumni Association stands at a turning point, moving toward a new era. Building on the traditions forged by the dedication of our seniors and the passion of our juniors, I hope the Association will become a foundation that strengthens intergenerational connection and exchange, while promoting the value of our School both within and beyond the University.
In today’s world, where the social importance and role of civil engineering are more vital than ever, the achievements of each and every one of you are the assets and pride of our School. I firmly believe that through the continued contributions and communication of our alumni, the public perception and recognition of civil engineering professionals will be further elevated.
I look forward with great anticipation to the journey toward the next century. As President of the Alumni Association, I promise to walk this path together with you—listening to your voices and striving to foster a warm community where alumni from all generations can come together.
Let us join forces so that we may always speak proudly of the name of the School of Civil, Environmental & Architectural Engineering at Korea University.
I wish you health and happiness, and I look forward to meeting and greeting you often. Thank you.
Our Department of Architecture was established in 1964 and produced its first graduates in 1968. Since then, about 2,700 architects have been produced, demonstrating the dignified spirit and excellent skills of ancient architects not only in Korea but also around the world, including the Middle East. At my alma mater, the Department of Architecture and the Department of Architecture, Social and Environmental Engineering, were evaluated as the highest-grade departments in the 2013 JoongAng Ilbo university evaluation, and in 2014, the two departments were also selected side by side in the BK21 PLUS project.
This development can be said to coincide with the strong love of the alma mater of the alumni association and architecture, which started as the first president of the alumni association, Hwang Seon-gak (64) in September 1971. Many thanks to the many teachers who gave.
In October, wonderful events will be held to bring about 3,000 alumni and current students together, and a vision for another 50 years will be introduced. To this end, fundraising is being carried out with the goal of raising a fund of KRW 2 billion. Although there are many difficulties in various ways, we ask for the sincere participation of the alumni. In our alumni association, we promise to do our best to promote the 50th anniversary project and prepare for the meeting so that the sincerity of the alumni is not desired.
I hope that the honorable College Architecture alumni who have entered the society after graduating from the Faculty under the heartbreaking name of ‘Korea University’ have a wonderful year in 2014, and wish their families full of health and happiness. thank you.
